In the midst of the Hindi imposition controversy, L Murugan countered Udhayanidhi Stalin’s remarks on the matter by casting doubt on the origins of his name and condemning the DMK’s position. Despite legal troubles, Deputy CM Stalin has stood firm in his stance.

Union Minister L Murugan criticized Tamil Nadu deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin for suggesting that couples should give their children “Tamil names” to resist Hindi imposition in the southern state of India, ANI reported.

Murugan responded to Stalin’s statement on October 23 by alleging the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) of practicing discrimination. The report highlighted that the union minister further raised doubts about the authenticity of the name ‘Udhayanidhi Stalin,’ advising the deputy CM to address issues within their own family before offering counsel.

Controversy Erupts Regarding Comment on ‘Tamil Names’

Murugan questioned whether Udhayanidhi Stalin has a Tamil name, emphasizing the importance of preserving Tamil names within their family. He clarified that there is no imposition of Hindi in Tamil Nadu, stating that those interested in learning Hindi can do so without objection.

The DMK epitomizes bias,” he remarked, criticizing, “While advocating for social justice, they fail to practice it. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is championing the Tamil language globally, whereas Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin is accused of deceiving the public by playing politics in the guise of promoting the language.

The Misrepresentation of Facts

Deputy CM Stalin clarified on October 22 that his remarks had been inaccurately portrayed.

The speaker highlighted that they had referenced the ideologies of Periyar, Perarignar Anna, and their leader Kalaignar. Sadly, their words were manipulated and led to multiple lawsuits across India, beyond Tamil Nadu. Despite being urged to apologize in court, they firmly declined, declaring, “I stand by my words. As Kalaignar’s descendant, I stand unwavering and won’t retract any statement.” The individual now confronts legal challenges. Emphasizing the excellence of their Dravidian governance model, they asserted, “…our state government serves as a beacon for others.

What’s the reason behind all the controversy?

The dispute arose when Udhayanidhi Stalin suggested that couples opt for Tamil names for their children to resist the imposition of Hindi in the state.

Udhayanidhi Stalin emphasized the importance of preserving Tamil culture by urging the couple to select a lovely Tamil name for their child. He expressed concern over attempts to promote Hindi in Tamil Nadu indirectly, citing the removal of words from the Tamil Thaai Vaazthu and the introduction of a new education policy as examples. Despite these efforts, the imposition of Hindi has been unsuccessful, with past endeavors, such as renaming Tamil Nadu, being met with strong opposition from residents. The discussion now revolves around the possible exclusion of the term ‘Dravidam’ from Tamil Thaai Vaazthu.

The speaker emphasized that as long as there are members of the DMK and Tamil people alive, the essence of Tamil, Tamil Nadu, and Dravidam will remain untouched. Additionally, the speaker firmly stated that Tamil Nadu will always resist any attempts to impose Hindi on its people.
