During the NDTV World Summit, Mr. Cameron expressed the view that India possesses the necessary credibility to act as a mediator in the conflict in Ukraine.

New Delhi:

David Cameron, the ex-Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, mentioned in an interview with Hindustan Times that India has the potential to significantly contribute towards de-escalating the current conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

During the NDTV World Summit, Mr. Cameron stated that India possesses the necessary credibility to act as a mediator in the conflict in Ukraine.

The Russia-Ukraine conflict, now spanning over two and a half years, continues without any indication of progress in ceasefire negotiations.

Mr. Cameron added that while India could potentially mediate, it must guarantee that Russian President Vladimir Putin is prevented from seizing territory through military means.

President Putin expressed on Friday that determining a precise timetable for concluding the protracted conflict in Ukraine is challenging. Nevertheless, he asserted that Russia will emerge victorious, while also acknowledging Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s interest in the matter.

Russia and Ukraine have both refuted allegations of deliberately targeting civilians in the 2-1/2-year conflict initiated by Russia against its smaller neighbor through a comprehensive invasion.

President Putin, ahead of the 16th BRICS Summit in Moscow, expressed support for PM Modi’s characterization of the alliance. He concurred with the Indian leader’s observation that the group is “not anti-western, but rather non-western,” deeming it fitting.

He emphasized that the coalition, which has grown from its original five members to encompass an additional five countries, should not be perceived as a “block-like entity.
