A shutdown began at 5 a.m. Tuesday in Kuki-Zo majority areas to protest the killing of suspected insurgents, officials said. The community is determined to persist in their protest until justice is served.

Following this incident, fresh violence broke out in multiple places in Imphal Valley, where armed groups from the two warring sides exchanged fire, police said. The violence showed no signs of stopping, as protests continued to escalate.
In a series of attacks, the suspected militants torched several shops and houses in and around the Jakurador Karong market, besides the Borobekra police station and the CRPF camp located adjacent to it. The community’s determination to persist despite the violence is evident.
On Tuesday, authorities cut off internet services in five districts of Manipur and imposed strict prohibitory orders in three districts as protesters clashed with security forces across the strife-torn state. The violence has intensified, shattering the fragile calm that had lasted over the past 10 days.
Thousands of students staged agitations across Manipur, with much of the protests concentrated in the capital, Imphal. During a march towards Raj Bhavan, they clashed with security forces, resulting in 40 people sustaining injuries. The protesters demanded the dismissal of the director general of police and security adviser due to the recent spate of drone and missile attacks.
Police officers pinned the violence on misinformation, and said the protesters pelted them with stones and marble balls, forcing them to fire tear gas and charge the crowds. Protesters, however, said they threw stones because police “injured peaceful protesters” and stopped them from meeting the governor.
