Royal Enfield Himalayan Electric 2.0 Showcased At EICMA – New Motor, Battery
Renowned globally for its classic and vintage motorcycle models, Royal Enfield embraces its rich history and nostalgia. Despite its strong roots in the past, the company also prioritizes future-oriented initiatives such as electrification and sustainability, reflecting its commitment to modern trends.
At EICMA 2024, Royal Enfield unveiled its latest range, the Flying Flea series. Alongside this release, a revisit of the electric Himalayan concept from EICMA 2023 was also on display, now known as the Himalayan Electric 2.0. This updated motorcycle introduces enhancements in both battery performance and motor capabilities.
Royal Enfield solidified its position as a key player in India’s mainstream ADV market with the introduction of the Himalayan 411. Previously dominated by smaller capacity options from Hero MotoCorp, this segment quickly embraced Royal Enfield’s new offering, propelling it to instant success. The subsequent release of the Himalayan 450 further enhanced the bike’s reputation, delivering improved highway cruising performance.
At EICMA 2023, Royal Enfield unveiled the HIM-E concept, an electric adventure motorcycle belonging to the Himalayan series. The innovative design incorporated a sizable battery unit in the traditional fuel tank and engine placement, driving a centrally positioned electric motor that spins the rear wire-spoke wheels wrapped in off-road tires.
The latest iteration of the Himalayan Electric concept unveiled at EICMA 2024 retains the original formula from the previous year but incorporates several technological enhancements. It should be highlighted that additional iterations may be necessary before reaching the production stage.
The appearance of the Himalayan Electric 2.0 is notably closer to the Himalayan 450 that is currently available for purchase, as opposed to the overly futuristic design of the HIM-E Concept presented last year. Unlike before, the seat no longer resembles a fuel tank, bringing a unique and unconventional charm. Positioned underneath the relatively flat seat, one can find the substantial battery pack along with a motor placed in the middle.
The tank brace for jerrycans and various accessories has been revamped and now boasts a White finish instead of the Red color from the previous year. The LED headlights and USD front forks now sport a striking Gold hue. Standing out are the tall windscreen, circular ORVMs, elevated seat height, generous ground clearance, and a sleek rear section.
The Royal Enfield Himalayan Electric 2.0 concept stands out with its electronically controlled suspension system, single disc brakes on both ends, striking gold wire-spoke wheels, a purposeful design, and a strong road presence. According to the manufacturer, the battery and motor featured in this concept are completely redesigned.
