The Ministry of External Affairs previously announced that Scholz, at Modi’s invitation, is scheduled to make an official trip to India from October 24-26. During the visit, the two leaders are set to engage in comprehensive discussions aimed at enhancing bilateral strategic relations, particularly in defense, commerce, and renewable energy sectors.

Modi and Scholz are scheduled to jointly lead the seventh Intergovernmental Consultations (IGC) at Hyderabad House this Friday. Within the IGC, ministers from both parties engage in discussions within their specific jurisdictions and subsequently present the results of their talks to the prime minister and chancellor.

Twice-yearly drill

The IGC occurs every two years. Berlin hosted the most recent IGC in May 2022, where the German-Indian Green and Sustainable Development Partnership (GSDP) was established during discussions between Modi and Scholz. Robert Habeck, the German Vice-Chancellor, emphasized the significance of the 18th Asia-Pacific Conference of German Business scheduled for Friday and Saturday in Delhi. Ahead of the event, Habeck expressed gratitude to Scholz and Modi before they took the stage.

Ambassador Philipp Ackermann mentioned during a press briefing at his residence that a wide range of topics would be on the agenda for discussion when the German Chancellor and various federal ministers visit New Delhi on Friday.

Direct attention towards India.

The “Focus on India” document, a significant initiative adopted by the German Cabinet, signifies a collaborative effort by all ministries and departments to enhance bilateral relations to a more advanced stage, as highlighted by the country’s ambassador.

Uwe Gehlen, head of development cooperation at the German Embassy in India, stated to PTI in September that the bond between India and Germany thrives on a significant foundation of trust, friendship, and mutual accountability. This strong relationship propels both nations forward while also making meaningful contributions to the global arena. Chancellor Scholz’s visit aligns perfectly with this shared ethos.
