Watch: Mohammed Shami Bowling At Full Throttle During Ranji Trophy Comeback
After a period of 360 days, Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami returned to the field on Wednesday to participate in a competitive match. In Indore, he bowled 10 overs without taking any wickets during Bengal’s game against Madhya Pradesh.
Social media is abuzz with a video snippet featuring Shami showcasing his bowling skills in the match. In his initial four-over spell, the 34-year-old gave away 16 runs, delivering 17 dot balls and three boundaries.
Shami bowled six overs in his second spell, conceding 18 runs, which included a maiden.
Shami’s Potential Comeback Amid Injury Setbacks
Reports suggest that Shami, despite not being included in the squad for the five-match Test series, may stage an international comeback during the Australia tour if he can demonstrate his fitness.
Earlier this year, Ajit Agarkar, the chief selector of the Indian men’s team, expressed optimism to the media about Shami’s return for the home Test series against Bangladesh. Contrary to expectations, reports later surfaced indicating that the cricketer had encountered knee problems, potentially prolonging his absence from competitive cricket.
Amidst the cricketing arena, Shami finds himself sharing the field with his sibling Mohammed Kaif for the inaugural occasion in a Ranji Trophy fixture. Despite Shami’s inability to secure a wicket, Kaif, displaying skills akin to his brother as a right-arm fast bowler, successfully claimed a dismissal as Madhya Pradesh concluded the day at 103/1 in response to Bengal’s first innings total of 228.
