Amidst his fame from starring in Farah Khan’s Main Hoon Na, Bollywood actor Zayed Khan opened up about a distressing event involving his older son Zidaan, who battled a life-threatening respiratory problem at the tender age of three. The alarming incident unfolded during the family’s stay in London, where Zidaan encountered a grave struggle with his breathing.
During a conversation with actor Amrita Rao on her YouTube channel Couple of Things, Zayed recounted a time in London when his eldest son Zidaan, aged 3, faced a severe respiratory issue. Zidaan approached him, seeking assistance as he struggled to breathe, saying, “Papa help me, I can’t breathe.
Malaika Parekh, Zayed’s spouse, whom the actor praised for her exceptional ability to handle medical crises, promptly dialed for an ambulance that reached their location within a mere 15 minutes. Recollecting the incident, the 44-year-old actor emphasized the gravity of the life-threatening situation.
Upon arrival at the hospital, Zayed was faced with the harrowing scene of his suffering child. Recounting the ordeal, he mentioned the uncertainty conveyed by a nurse regarding Zidaan’s survival. With a sense of urgency, a doctor sought Zayed’s consent to administer an adrenaline shot. Acknowledging the swift response of the London healthcare system, the actor highlighted the prompt gathering of four doctors from various locations within the city at the hospital.
After stating that there was a readiness to perform surgery involving potentially cutting the child’s throat if the steroids proved ineffective, he expressed the immense distress they experienced at the prospect of losing their child. Fortunately, relief came when the steroids began to take effect within a few hours, obviating the need for surgical intervention.
Post the event, medical professionals cautioned that Zidaan might not enjoy good health in the future. Despite this, Zayed ensured his son engaged in various outdoor pursuits. With time, Zidaan conquered the challenges, and Zayed currently views him as the healthiest child with an impressive physique.
Zayed and Malaika had to witness their son in agony more than once, not just in London. Throughout the span of 5 to 15 years, young Zidaan found himself hospitalized in the ICU on several occasions. The sight of his child enduring such pain plunged Zayed Khan into a state of depression.
Zayed confided in Amrita about the immense despair he experienced during that period, praying fervently to God, pleading, “If someone must bear this burden, let it be me, not him.” The injustice of a child enduring such difficulties weighed heavily on his heart.
In 2005, Zayed, the son of actor-filmmaker Sanjay Khan and the sibling of Sussanne Khan, tied the knot with Malaika Parekh. Their first child, Zidaan, was born in 2008, followed by the arrival of their second son, Ariz, in 2011.
